Welcome to Ms. Croy’s Third Grade!

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:32

Curriculum

Religion– We are learning about the Lenten and Easter seasons. Third graders will be helping to lead the Stations of the Cross on April 19th. We are also learning about the parts of the Mass.

Math- We are starting a new unit on fractions. We are learning how to read and write fractions as part of a whole or set, represent fractions on a number line, compare fractions, find equivalent fractions. Students should continue practicing their multiplication and division facts for fluency.

Writing– We are finishing our research report on an animal. This quarter we will be writing a narrative with a focus on using good descriptive words.

Spelling – We are learning about the meanings of suffixes and the spelling rules for adding them to base words.

Reading – We are continuing our novels, Charlotte’s Web or The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Once we are finished we will go back to our basal reader.

Science – We are beginning a new unit on force and motion. Students will be doing a variety of activities related to different forces and testing how forces affect the motion of objects when applied in various ways.

Social Studies – We continue with our Oregon regions study looking at agricultural products grown in each region. Students will be entering a calendar contest that highlights agricultural products of Oregon.

Service Learning Project

This year our service learning project is to help Northwest Pilot Project (NWPP). NWPP helps low income senior citizens find and keep affordable housing in downtown Portland. We will be helping the organization by collecting  much needed items such as kitchen and bath towels, hygiene supplies and socks. We also make valentine and spring cards for the seniors. Our service helps the clients of NWPP to feel special and to know someone is thinking of them. You can find information about NWPP on their website www.nwpilotproject.org.
